2008 CONVENTION RE-CAP

2008 was a busy convention year for me. Highlights include presenting the Inspirational Welcome at IDEA Fitness Fusion in Chicago, both an honor and a truly memorable experience! And passing the title of Fitness Instructor of the Year to this year’s recipient, Shirley Archer, at World IDEA in Las Vegas.

I also had the opportunity to teach at two of Can-Fit-Pro’s events: Montreal where I taught a few sessions in French, and at the annual convention in Toronto!

I was also invited to present at three different SCW Manias, including Boston, where my Alma Mater is and where I began my career. The highlight of the Boston event was running into a former colleague and friend, Pam Dawson, who I hadn’t seen in 20 years!! We both had tears in our eyes…

I was back in Canada in October as the featured presenter at the annual BCRPA convention. This was a great event, and it was my first time in Vancouver. I stayed a few extra days with my good friends Julie and Colin Milner (of ICAA fame) and was fortunate that a couple of my favorite colleagues who live in Vancouver, Amanda Vogel and Krista Popowych were free for lunch. Lastly, I was thrilled to present a session on 'Implementing Fitness into the Spa' at the International SPA Association (ISPA) conference in Las Vegas in November.

2009 EVENTS: IHRSA INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION & TRADE SHOW

I'm happy to announce that I will be presenting a session entitled 'The Future of Fitness is in the Spa' at the  IHRSA convention, which will take place in San Francisco, CA. from March 16-19. 2009 EVENTS: ACSM HEALTH AND FITNESS SUMMIT 2009

This event is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia from March 25-28th and I am excited that I will be co-presenting with Biray Alsac for the first time. Our session, 'Embracing Interactive Technology: Positioning Your Group Exercise Department for Success in the Next Decade' is not to be missed! I will also be presenting an activity session. 2009 EVENTS: IDEA WORLD FITNESS CONVENTION

The 2009 World IDEA Fitness Convention will be held in Anaheim, California, August 12-16. I will be presenting several sessions during the convention, a few of them for the first time. GLOBAL SCENE: FITNESS CHINA

This was just an amazing trip. I have been to Asia many times during my career, but this was my first trip to Mainland China. The Fitness China convention and trade show was held in Beijing just before the Olympics. The event was well attended and represented by enthusiastic participants from all regions of China. My hosts were gracious, and the staff was very helpful. I also made a lot of new friends with fellow presenters from Australia and the US.

My colleague Jacqueline from AASFP and her team were extremely generous and attentive during the event. Jacqueline also helped organize and take care of me during a few days of tourism in Beijing. I’ve posted some memorable photos from my time there, including trips to the Forbidden City and the Great Wall.

GLOBAL SCENE: MIOFF

I was back in Moscow in September for the Moscow International Fitness and Wellness Festival (MIOFF). I presented several lectures, as well as an activity session. I had a great time at the event, saw a lot of friends from all over Russia, and as always, enjoyed some of my favorite foods: borscht, blinis and caviar!! Mmmmmmmmm.

Here are some photos from the trip including a couple of me with Sherry Catlin and Tim Riley of BodyBar… we spent one day together walking around Moscow with our new friend Nathalia, who played tour guide.

GLOBAL SCENE: IHRSA EUROPEAN CONGRESS

Lisbon was the site of IHRSA’s European Congress this year. I had the pleasure to work with the IHRSA staff AND attend the conference. The keynote speakers were excellent, and it was a great opportunity to meet many of Europe’s leading health club operators and developers, to see old friends and colleagues, and to meet some new ones.

Here is a photo of me with one of the keynote speakers, Kell Ryan, the co-founder of Ryanair, the largest low cost airline in Europe. This is one nice and humble man despite the enormous success and influence that he has had!

My session ‘Get to the Core with Circuit Training’ was filmed at the World IDEA convention in July and is now available for purchase. This is my third DVD collaboration with IDEA and Healthy Learning and you can find all three here on my online store.

PRODUCTS AND COMPANIES: BEAMFIT

I’m sure that by now you have heard of Beamfit, the brainchild of my long time friend David Mesirow. This innovative program that utilizes a high density foam beam is getting rave reviews, and I was thrilled to have participated in the first Beamfit Master Training held in Palm Springs, CA. in September. Approximately 35 trainers were in attendance, and a good time was had by all. I am also honored to serve as a member of Beamfit’s advisory board.

PRODUCTS AND COMPANIES: TRX FITNESS ANYWHERE

I also participated in the second annual TRX Fitness Anywhere summit in San Francisco. 3 days of intense training on the TRX Suspension trainer left us all sore, but better for it. The photos tell it all… including the fantastic party hosted by TRX’s founder Randy Hetrick.
